Blurb:

In Olympus, you either have the power to rule…or you are ruled. Achilles Kallis may have been born with nothing, but as a child he vowed he would claw his way into the poisonous city’s inner circle. Now that a coveted role has opened to anyone with the strength to claim it, he and his partner, Patroclus Fotos, plan to compete and double their odds of winning.

Neither expect infamous beauty Helen Kasios to be part of the prize…or for the complicated fire that burns the moment she looks their way.

Zeus may have decided Helen is his to give to away, but she has her own plans. She enters into the competition as a middle finger to the meddling Thirteen rulers, effectively vying for her own hand in marriage. Unfortunately, there are those who would rather see her dead than lead the city. The only people she can trust are the ones she can’t keep her hands off―Achilles and Patroclus. But can she really believe they have her best interests at heart when every stolen kiss is a battlefield?

My Opinion:

I love Katee Robert’s Dark Olympus series and I couldn’t wait to read the latest installment. The cover is gorgeous and I couldn’t put the book down because of the great writing style. I finished the book within a day. Overall, I really enjoyed the book, but it doesn’t quite live up to the previous two. There are some things that bothered me a bit. The plot was very interesting and I really liked the competition for Ares position. The erotic scenes worked very well with the plot without dominating it too much. Katee Robert is definitely the queen of smut. Nevertheless, she always made sure that the plot didn’t get lost.

Helen, Achilles and Patroclus are a very interesting team. Achilles and Patroclus have been dating for quite a while and the scenes between these two were really nice. Unfortunately, Achilles sometimes got on my nerves with his manner and his hypocrisy. In this situation, I really didn’t think it was okay how he behaved towards Patroclus. Both are attracted to Helen and I thought it was wonderful of her to be considerate of Patroclus feelings. Helen has an inner strength that you just have to admire and I thought it was so great that she didn’t let it get her down that she was used as pawn by her own brother.

The dynamics of the three developed at a good and understandable pace, so that I was able to understand the behavior of all three well. Actually, I liked the ending, but I would have liked a more clarifying conversantion between Helen, Achilles and Patroclus. Precisely because of Achilles behavior at the end of the tournament. Still, the ending promised an exciting sequel as we learned a few things that will mess up life in Dark Olympus.
